  1. This man's bike also looks pretty Dutch: the longer front fender, the bulbous pre-LED front light, integrated rear light, white fender and the chain guard all give it away...

Very comfortable, sturdy and designed to not dirty your clothing.

But also very heavy and single speed, which makes it less appealing in Ottawa.

  2. A cycling sleuth!

This bike really caught my eye. And he was having no trouble going up the incline here, single speed or not. It amazes me how these bikes are coming out of the woodwork now.

  3. I might have been wrong, the bike could have a Sturmy-Archer hub or something similiar. These 3-speed internal hubs were popular for several decades and last for quite awhile. But I think are increasingly being replaced by Shimano Alfine hubs, which are more expensive but have a greater range.

The internal hub means you don't need a derailleur, which means you can have a chain cover, and you can just ride in ordinary pants without needing a clip or anything. Very civilized.

I challenge you to get a photo of a bike with snelbinders! These are part of most Dutch bicycles, and make travelling with stuff very easy, without requiring special panniers.

  4. I had to google snelbinder. They look rather like bungee cords. I think I have seen a bike with those. I like a photo challenge but this may be tough!
