I like a photo challenge but this may be tough!Ottawa bike guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15365339487504777098noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4882181318186690642.post-78724889222479930732011-06-24T14:50:10.741-07:002011-06-24T14:50:10.741-07:00I might have been wrong, the bike could have a Stu...I might have been wrong, the bike could have a Sturmy-Archer hub or something similiar. These 3-speed internal hubs were popular for several decades and last for quite awhile. But I think are increasingly being replaced by Shimano Alfine hubs, which are more expensive but have a greater range.

The internal hub means you don't need a derailleur, which means you can have a chain cover, and you can just ride in ordinary pants without needing a clip or anything. Very civilized.

I challenge you to get a photo of a bike with snelbinders! These are part of most Dutch bicycles, and make travelling with stuff very easy, without requiring special panniers.Alex deVrieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02493376903958719831noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4882181318186690642.post-39457129811402026592011-06-24T05:00:45.281-07:002011-06-24T05:00:45.281-07:00A cycling sleuth!

It amazes me how these bikes are coming out of the woodwork now.Ottawa bike guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15365339487504777098noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4882181318186690642.post-54219802186520774702011-06-23T19:37:34.767-07:002011-06-23T19:37:34.767-07:00This man's bike also looks pretty Dutch: the l...This man's bike also looks pretty Dutch: the longer front fender, the bulbous pre-LED front light, integrated rear light, white fender and the chain guard all give it away...

Very comfortable, sturdy and designed to not dirty your clothing.

But also very heavy and single speed, which makes it less appealing in Ottawa.Alex deVrieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02493376903958719831noreply@blogger.com
